>1/3/14: Shoe Review: The Adidas Supernova Glide 6 Boost

The past year has been a renaissance in running for Adidas.  The introduction of Boost cushioning technology in the Energy Boost marked a new beginning for their running line.  Boost is a new, innovative cushioning system that utilizes a TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane), which retains cushioning properties more effectively than EVA (Ethyl Vinyl Acetate) foam rubber.

The Boost family has grown to include the Energy, adiStar, and Adios. The newest member, the Glide 6, is making it’s own mark.

If you look at the Glide 5 and the Glide 6 side by side, you might not notice much that’s different.  The Glide 5 actually looks a little bit sleeker than the 6 because of the bonded overlays and reflective details.  The Glide 6 resorts to stitched overlays – a bit stiffer and heavier from a design point of view.  The 6 does not employ the new TechFit upper that the Energy and adiStar models utilize.  Rather, it has a more traditional profile of stitched overlays around the mid-foot, integrated with an engineered mesh in the forefoot.  The combination provides a secure fit, support around the mid-foot that was missing in the TechFit upper, and flexibility in the forefoot to accommodate many different foot shapes.

When you put the shoe on, it feels different.  It’s softer, yet has that unmistakable “Boost bounce”.  Adidas has integrated their new Boost cushioning system with traditional EVA foam.  There is a bed of EVA foam that sits within a cradle of the Boost TPU footbed.  The result is a familiar softness when you step into the shoe, but a new responsiveness from the Boost TPU when running.

The shoe is stiff – which in addition to the secure fit around the mid-foot, provides a modest amount of stability and support to runners who need it.

Try this shoe if:

-       You wore the Glide 5 and liked it

-       You are a neutral runner who likes a soft feeling shoe
