Launched last month, the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 32 [available in stores] brings a new feel and a lighter, faster approach to this old classic.

This shoe is the enduring symbol of Nike Running – now in it’s 32nd generation, the Pegasus was, for a lot of runners, THE original running shoe. So Nike isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel with this one. It has a traditional 12 millimeter heel-to-toe offset and maintains the Air Zoom cushioning that has remained so popular over the years.

pegasusVersion 32 does have a few improvements over past models, however. Nike has removed the midfoot overlays and replaced them with an engineered mesh, allowing for more breathability and a more sock-like fit through the midfoot. Extending that custom fit throughout, Nike has added flywire cables to the midfoot (see photo), which give the wearer a snug and secure fit.

But the star of this shoe is the cushioning. The Zoom Air unit in the heel coupled with an underfoot crash rail helps minimize impact and smooth out the heel-to-toe transition. A cushioned foam midsole gives a feeling of spring-loaded speed that make this shoe a great option for both tempo runs and long slow miles.

pegasus32Number 32 stands up well to its competition in the moderate-cushion neutral category. At 10.6 ounces (men) and 8.9 ounces (women) it’s slightly lighter than the Asics Gel-Cumulus 17 and the Zoom Air cushioning offers a little more response through the gait cycle than the Brooks Ghost 8 [read product review]. The Pegasus 32 is priced at $109.99, coming in at a slightly lower price point than its counterparts.peg

The Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 32 is available in men’s size 8-13 and women’s size 6-11 in all Marathon Sports locations. [CLICK TO FIND A LOCATION NEAR YOU]
