Yoga for Runners

We all understand the benefits of cross-training as part of our regimen – active recovery, injury prevention, improved fitness.  How many of us have considered yoga for cross-training?  Yoga can help to heighten our mental focus, improve flexibility, increase strength, and give us a better awareness of movement – all things that can improve our running experience.

We invite you to join us at "Yoga for Runners" at our Brookline store.  Now that football season is over and long runs are getting longer, what better way to cap off your weekend?

Marathon Sports and Outback Physical Therapy – Sunday March 10th, 10a – 12p

Marathon Sports invites you to join us in a meaningful discussion with Dr. Ithamar Jotkowitz, Founder and Clinical Director of Outback Physical Therapy at our Cambridge store on Sunday, March 10th.

We will discuss biomechanics, anatomy, and look at running from a physical therapist's point of view.  Dr. Jotkowitz will discuss common injuries and issues, as well as specific issues that are relevant to the attendees.

Dr. Ithamar Jotkowitz, PT, DPT, CAMT has been a licensed physical therapist for over a decade. After earning his physical therapy degree in Melbourne, Australia, he pursued his clinical doctorate in New York and received the Certification in Advanced Manipulative Therapy, the only physical therapist in Massachusetts to have obtained this accreditation.

Newton Running Fun Runs – Second Thursday each month at 6pm

Join Marathon Sports and Newton Running at our Cambridge store the second Thursday of every month for a fun run where you will be able to test out Newton footwear, learn running form tips, and socialize with a cool group of people.

Running routes will accommodate all skill levels.

Marathon Sports Presents:  The Long Run – Thursday, March 14th 6p – 8p

You're ramping up the miles.  That marathon/half marathon/other distance race you're training for is creeping up closer and closer on the calendar.  You're sore.  Your IT band is tight.  Your calves hurt.  The shin splints keep popping up.  You don't know how to avoid hitting "the wall".  You're still trying to figure out the nutrition component - during the run, and during the week.  Aches, pains, exhaustion - they all seem to be the norm now.

This workshop was designed for you.

We will take an in depth look at nutrition - why you need to fuel, what you need to fuel with, and how your body utilizes what you put in.

We will explore the benefits of compression and talk about the differences between manufacturers.

We will look at therapeutic products and talk about self maintenance:  stretching, massage, strength training.

Trail Running 101 – Wednesday, March 20th, 7p – 8:30p

Spring is right around the corner and there's no better time to get on the trails to experience the great outdoors in our own backyard.

Join us at our Melrose store for a Trail 101 panel-style event.  You will have the opportunity to ask experienced trail runners any questions you have about getting off the roads and into the woods.  Whether you're curious about how to get started, where to run locally, what groups are in the area, or interested in doing your first ultra, our panel of runners will be able to help you get to the next step.

We will have a special guest - the Executive Director of the Friends of the Fells - who will gladly answer any questions about local running and hiking.

All attendees will receive a list of local resources and a trail map of the Fells.

“Run to Remember” Training Runs with Marathon Sports and Cambridge Sports Union
