North Face Better Than Naked

As many seasoned runners and those new to the sport know, this time of year is both a blessing and a curse when it comes to getting outside for your miles. A blessing in that the sun is finally shining, the trails are dirt and grass again (mostly) and the roads are gradually looking less and less like a mix of glacial flows and chocolate Slush Puppies. A curse, however, in that as the temperatures rise, your desire to spin the legs outside is often frustrated by a continuous string of variable weather. Alas, such is springtime running in New England.

Thankfully, Marathon Sports is here to announce the addition of The North Face’s Better Than Naked jackets, shortsleeves, and singlets—as well as a few other springtime apparel options from this San Francisco-born outfitter—to our locations. All these TNF “Better Than Naked” products feature the brand’s “FlashDry” technology, a layer of microporous particles embedded in the fabric that increases its surface area in order to accelerate evaporative drying and cooling, which makes them perfect for both cool Spring Shower and warm May Flower runs.

The Women’s Better Than Naked Jacket from TNF (100% polyester ripstop body, 100% polyester mesh with FlashDry) is ultra-lightweight, wind and waterproof resistant, and comes with a perforated back panel as well as a drop tail to extend rear coverage on especially muddy runs. The Women’s Better Than Naked Short-Sleeve (100% polyester with FlashDry body, 95% polyester/5% elastane panel, 83% polyester/17% viscose panel) features the same lightweight, wind and waterproof resistant properties of the Jacket as well as stitchless seams and burn-out ventilation on the back, and the Women’s Better Than Naked Singlet features all of the same specs as the short-sleeve except in a race-ready piece. In the men’s line of these items, all of the specs are the same except in the Better Than Naked Jacket, which comes with a DWR (durable water repellent) coating that causes water to bead up, as well as an ambidextrous rear pocket.

In addition to the Better Than Naked line of tops, Marathon Sports now carries several The North Face shorts and, for women, with FlashDry), features easy-access pockets, energy gel pockets on the rear, and no inner thigh seam. (NOTE: The Better Than Naked skirtoptions. In men’s, the Voracious Dual Short (86% polyester/14% elastane with FlashDry, 100% polyester tricot, 7” or 9” inseam) comes with a built-in compressive short liner for a sleek internal feel as well as a zip pocket to store vital items on long runs. Its lighter little brother, the Better Than Naked Split Short (100% polyester ripstop body, 90 g/m^2 polyester mesh panel, 100% polyester liner

And finally, for women looking to mix up training with some time on the yoga mat or to ensure maximum comfort in every area of their Split Short is available in select locations only.) In women’s, the Better Than Naked Split Short is slightly different material-wise from the men’s version (100% polyester body, 100% polyester panel, 5% elastane/95% polyester panel, 100% polyester with FlashDry liner) but comes with the same pockets and seamless inner thigh, while the Eat My Dust Skirt (86% polyester/14% elastane body, 100% polyester tricot panel) is a great alternative to shorts due to its “boy-short” liner with stow pockets as well as its “feminine ruched” side panels.

running gear, Marathon Sports now carries The North Face’s Tadsana Sunrise Tee (50% cotton, 50% polyester)—which comes with a burn-out print, and scooped neck and hem, and a regular fit—as well as the Stow-N-Go A/B High-Impact Sports Bra (92% polyester/8% elastane single jersey body, 90% polyester/10% elastane knit mesh panels, 88% polyester/12% elastane panels, 82% polyester/18% elastane knit panels, 100% polyester tricot mesh), which is a double-layered bra that offers modest coverage and features as internal storage pocket for keys, money, or energy gels.

As always, we’re more than happy to answer any and all apparel questions at any of our locations, so do come in soon. In the meantime, happy running!
