SHOE REVIEW: Mizuno Wave Enigma 6

IMG_6861For runners looking for a high-cushion shoe that is also light and comfortable, the Mizuno Wave Enigma 6 fits the bill. Although the shoe is incredibly cushioned, it fits like a glove and feels very minimal on the foot.

I decided to test out the Enigma 6 on three different runs – a road run, a trail run, and a treadmill run. My first run in the Enigma was the road run, and it went smoothly. The shoes felt wonderful right off the bat and throughout the run, I felt nicely cushioned – like I was running on clouds rather than pavement.

IMG_6865My second run in the Enigma was a trail run. I’m not really a trail run type of gal, but I wanted to see how the shoe would perform on different surfaces, so I went for it! Even though it’s not technically a trail shoe, the Enigma held up nicely and kept my foot sturdy and supported, giving me a nice smooth run on an unpredictable surface.

Finally, I took the shoes into the gym and onto the treadmill. I usually last only about five to ten minutes on the treadmill, but I was able to run a 5K on the treadmill without a problem. My feet never felt like they were slapping or dragging (which is how I usually feel on a treadmill) – I felt the same comfort in the Enigma on the treadmill as I did on the road.

If you’re a dedicated Enigma runner, you’re probably wondering how version 6 differs from the Enigma 5. The 6 has enhanced the great features you loved about your Enigma 5s. Mizuno updated the upper with a new semi-stretch material that keeps you locked in comfortably. They also improved the step-in feel with a new strobel board (the material that sits between the midsole and the sockliner).

The Enigma 6 is still the high-cushioned neutral shoe with a 12mm offset that you love – just better! The update takes the features that you already loved (soft yet responsive cushion and glove-like fit) and improves them.

IMG_6867The Mizuno Wave Enigma 6 combines the high-cushioned shoe that you need and the lightweight shoe you want. It provides a nice stable frame for underfoot, as well as a soft, form-fitting upper. This shoe faces some tough competition in the stacked neutral high-cushion category, but it stacks up extremely well against shoes like the Asics Gel-Nimbus, Brooks Glycerin, and Saucony Triumph. Stop by any of our locations and take it for a test drive!
