Do you like to stay active on vacation? While there are some of us that use a vacation as some nice recovery time and a way to hydrate your body exclusively with margaritas (which is totally fine if that’s your style!), there are others that prefer to stay active even while traveling.
If you’re planning on logging miles during your vacation adventure, there’s no need to bring an extra suitcase full of gear. Just a few essentials will help you stay active during your time away.Click to view slideshow.
There’s no need to pack a week’s worth of outfits – you need that suitcase space for all your vacation party clothes! Grab a few super lightweight, moisture-wicking tops that you can wear multiple times throughout your trip. The fabric of technical apparel is quick-drying, which means that you can pull it off post-run, rinse it out in the sink, hang it up and it will be ready for your next run. By the time they start to stink, it’s time to come home anyway!

A lot of time spent sitting down on an airplane can lead to some lead-like, swollen legs. Wearing compression socks on the plane can help stave some of that off by keeping blood from pooling in your lower extremities. PRO TIP: stick with a full sock, rather than a calf sleeve – a sleeve should be worn only during activity.
On vacations we tend to overindulge (in alcohol and salty foods), so it’s important to try and balance that out a little bit. Bring your HydroFlask along – it keeps liquid cold for 24 hours! (It’s also a fantastic container for cold beers, just saying). And electrolyte replacement products like Nuun and Skratch can help you stay well hydrated after your vacation workouts.
Your standard flat flip-flops can wreak havoc on your heels and plantar fascia. Bring along a pair of Oofos, which provide support and shock absorption and helps cradle your arches in a way that regular sandals do not. Plus, there are all sorts of sweet colors to choose from!
A pair of lightweight, versatile shades are the perfect accessory to bring along. Tifosi has a number of styles that are great for running but don’t look out of place on the beach or boardwalk. Available at all Marathon Sports locations.
