Compare with Paradigm
Love Altra shoes and wanted to try these compared with my Paradigm (and Torin) models. Paradigm mulch more cushioned. Had to return.

Go to everyday trainer
First time in a zero drop shoe, was expecting a lot of strain on my feet and lower leg but with the cushioning underfoot and the general design the shoe runs seemlessly with my form. It feel incredibly natural. The upper and the tongue are extremely comfortable for putting in miles. Fairly responsive and surprisingly fast for the amount of material underfoot. 100 miles in and the ride is still soft and still fast. Great shoe would definitely reccomend!

Staff Review
In its first miles, this shoe revolutionized my expectations for how good a lightweight neutral trainer can be. The fit is excellent, a great introduction to the Altra experience provided by a toe box wider than most traditional shoes but narrower than other Altras. Accustomed to a bit of toe pinching in the Kinvara, I did not find this in the Rivera. The shoe allowed plenty of toe room while remaining secure. Sitting between the Escalante and the Torin, the Rivera offered ample cushion for such a minimal shoe. I found AltraEgo midsole bouncier and more forgiving than the PWRRUN of the Kinvara. Another great point would be the way the flex grooves through the outsole aligned with the metatarsal bones, giving the shoe a natural feel, approaching that of running barefoot. The distraction-free upper looks clean and disappeared during runs. The shoe promotes engagement of stabilizer muscles in the feet and ankles without being unstable. While not a great choice for those with tight calves or extremely narrow feet, the Altra Rivera is fun and responsive to run in and begs the runner to pick up the pace.

F&$% YEAH (Staff Review)
First off I love a lower drop shoe, so if you like the higher ups this review is not for you. As far as I am concerned Altra has been able to take that little bit of stiffness from the Torin and mix it with the incredibly versatile Ego foam. Why is it called Ego, because it may be the best there is and they know it. This shoe gives you the cushion you need for slower runs and the bounce you need for some long distance speed work. Are there better options to run 100 meters or that 15 mile long run? Sure, but this is for that 1KM tempo repeats that you gotta do up to 6 times and then can turn around and run an easy 8 in about 24 hours. The toe box is smaller this time around, but lets be honest it is still bigger than most, and the outsole still tracks with the bones of the feet so you get a great natural stride. Only caveat is that it is a little loose around tight turns, but this isn't the shoe you want to wear for ultimate or outrunning the cops (this is why I knocked it down a point in the fit category). BTW I'm on my second pair.
