I can appreciate the updates to this shoe. I am a neutral runner and found the support provided by the fan wave plate, was too much for me to run more that a mile or so comfortably. That being said, if you need some moderate + support for over-pronation, the Inspire 17 is a worthy option for consideration, precisely because the fan wave plate lends such solid support cushioned by Mizuno's update midsole material. I found the "Enerzy" foam to be a nice balance of cushion and response. The updated outsole is also a great improvement. The wider spacing of smaller and more defined lugs will make the Inspire 17 a good choice to take you from pavement to gravel roads and rail trails, and possibly even some mellow single track trail!
The Inspire 17 will definitely please long-time Inspire wearers. The cushioning and support are reminiscent of the 14, and the quality of the upper has increased dramatically. All in all it's a shoe that should keep any mild or moderate overpronator looking for support very content for a large number of miles.
My first run in a Mizuno in a bit, and I will say it came as advertised. Excellent responsiveness, great energy return, and just the right amount of support. The snap of the shoe helped me focus on the efficiency of my cadence as well as a lighter footfall through the gait cycle. If you are in the market for a light support, responsive shoe, this is the one for you.
I have been running in the Wave Inspire since the 9s and each update has its improvements but this update has knocked it out of the park. The cushioning for the 17s is very comfortable and the shoe itself is very lightweight and breathable. This shoe is a necessity if you need support when you run. If you are a fan of Mizuno or you are looking to switch things up a bit you have to give this shoe a try!
Full disclosure the Wave Inspire is not a shoe I run in, only because a supportive shoe does not work with my gait. HOWEVER, after spending some time in it and comparing it to the 16 I am really impressed. This version is softer and more reactive under foot and also allows for a smoother gait transition than previous models. Also the improved medial support with a wider heel base makes it more supportive while being less intrusive. The toe box was a bit narrow for my taste, but anyone who has been running in Mizuno's previous offering will probably find their foot to feel at home. I see myself maybe not wearing this shoe, but I will be pulling it way more often against the Adrenaline, Guide and 2000.
