The updated New Balance 860v11 is the best iteration yet! A contoured heel designed creates a secure fit, coupled with a wider forefoot. The Fresh Foam midsole is softer than previous versions, but still firm enough that you have full control and feel the ground beneath your foot. This shoe is ideal for road and track work and can be used for all paces and distances! The toe box feels a little more "shallow" than other versions, so I went up half a size to accommodate for this.
The NB 860 was a nice surprise for me. I typically where a high cushion neutral shoe with a more moderate heel to toe differential (Hoka Clifton , NB Beacon...) I was concerned the 860 may feel a bit stiff or blocky on my feet but they've quickly gained a place in my shoe rotation. They're true to size and have a terrific supportive feel without too stiff of a ride and there really isn't much sacrifice in terms of cushion.
I'm a mild, 215lb overpronator with a low (not flat) arch. In the past, I've had trouble medial posts pushing up on my instep. No problems with the 860. Great shoe!
Seems that a lot of shoes are getting softer and softer as they update. I was glad to find this version of the 860 to be a bit firmer so I can feel the ground beneath my feet a tad better. I also feel that a softer shoe allows for more/exaggerates my over-pronation. SOFTER IS NOT ALWAYS BETTER!
