For the first time, stability and support come in an ultralight package. The all-new Cloudflyer brings supreme cushioning and stability to your run. Its patented CloudTec® system is engineered with Zero-Gravity foam. That means the shoe weighs in at less than 260 grams (<9 oz) making the Cloudflyer one of the lightest models in the stability category. It's ultralight, yet heavy in function. A wider surface area with 12 "Clouds" provides a stable stance for a safe ride and features intelligent cushioning: precisely where you need it. Specifically designed "Clouds" in the rear-foot help avoid inward rotation and allow for a stable, yet natural transition. Get ready for shockingly soft landings and explosive take-offs. I have not worn ON shoes for a while, and I was impressed by the improvement in these shoes! I had twisted my ankle a day before I tried these shoes, and the firm ankle provided immediate relief. A nice wide toe box combined with ON's signature responsive Helion foam provided great addtional comfort. The last time I wore ON shoes I found they wore out quickly and rocks got caught in the bottom of the shoe, but that is not the case now. My only complaint is the laces. They are quite thin and difficult to untie when they get knotted up. Due to the star lacing system replacing the laces is easier said then done, but considering how much they have improved in such a short time, I suspect thicker laces are an improvement on the company's mind.
On knocked it out of the park with this update. The first thing I noticed on the new Cloudflyer was an immediate better fit around the ankle that was my biggest issue with the previous version. I always felt a digging sensation around there that I was worried would rub up against me and give me a blister. I was a huge fan of Helion Superfoam in On's other shoes the CloudStratus and CloudSwift so I was happy about the addition of that in the heel in the Cloudflyer. The star lacing system was a good part of the shoe that I'm glad they kept around, relacing it without that helped loosen up the toe box and give me a more roomy/comfortable fit. I used it for a couple runs and it was good to feel that I could use them for a long run or anything up to marathon pace, anything past that I'd switch to a faster shoe. But If you're looking for a soft, plush shoe from On to handle your daily mileage this a great choice!
