Good Shoe [Staff Review]

The Saucony Ride 13 feels like a good all-purpose trainer. I've run about 200 miles in my pair thus far and feel no unusual degradation of the integrity of the shoe. The rubber on the medial outsole of the shoe has been extended along the instep about a half inch further than the Ride ISO 2 rubber. This allows a firmer pronation control and keeps the midsole foam from compressing and/or wearing down, which prevents undue taxing of posterior tibialis and the other medial ligaments of the foot. This alone improves the shoe from the Ride ISO 2, however, the midsole foam feels much firmer than the two previous versions of the Ride. It is much firmer than the New Balance 880 Fresh Foam, and the Brooks Ghost's foam, (two shoes that fill a similar role as neutral, standard-cushion trainers.) This firmness creates less contact time on the ground, resulting in a more responsive, quicker shoe. The drawback is the joints of the body absorb more shock with each footfall then they would in an 880 for example. Thus the shoe actually works best on a more absorbent, forgiving surface, such as a rubber track, dirt road or treadmill. If I'm running easy on the roads and sidewalks for an hour, (the most common type of run among the general populace,) I'd prefer to be in the New Balance 880 or Brooks Ghost which have the more shock absorbant midsole foam. The Ride features an 8mm drop that allows for a somewhat more natural feel than a 10mm or 12mm drop, this is a positive, and makes it a more versatile shoe for cross-training, trail running or any sort of lateral movement in general. The ramp of the shoe also seems to feature a tiny duel waterfall effect with a second sudden drop that occurs more or less under the big-toe of the shoe. This is interesting, and seems to lead to a tiny increase in the speed of the final 'toe-off' as the foot rolls off from the ground. As with all Saucony, the toebox platform is wide and accommodates the splayed out foot of a true runner that's logged tens of thousands of miles on their feet. The upper is comfortable and breathable, the laces are nice and the reddish-black color is appealing. All in all the shoe is a good one, 7.85 stars out of 10.

Are you ready to Ride? [staff review]

I instantly loved the way the shoe fit. There is a nice roomy toe box and I really love the flexible shoe laces. Who would have thought shoe laces could upgrade a shoe so much?!?!? Compared to the NB880 or Brooks Ghost this shoe has a firmer feel under the foot. Some people prefer a firmer ride and some a softer ride. I did not mind the firmness of the shoe once I started running though. It was nice and responsive and provided plenty of cushioning for the "average length run". The outer sole tread is also nice and durable which I appreciate when running on rougher terrain or in wet conditions. Overall this is a great daily trainer and a shoe I will keep in rotation.

[Staff Review]

I really enjoyed this version of Saucony Ride. I was able to wear a regular width and normally have to wear a wide. It has a nice cushion feel without it feeling mushy. I would encourage people to give it a try, they just may become a saucony customer :)
